Terms of Service

The App is a tool that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to generate and manage the alt text of your product images, and that supports your search engine optimisation through image sitemaps. Its main functions are as follows.

• AI analysis of product images and generation of alt text, which is then written back as the alt text of the Shopify image (media item).
• Where your store supports several languages, registration of alt text in languages other than your primary one as Shopify translations.
• Bulk upload of product images using a ZIP file for the images and a CSV file for the mapping.
• Automatic generation when a product is created or updated, driven by webhooks.
• Generation of an image sitemap, its submission to Google Search Console and monitoring of its status.
• Verification of site ownership. One method of verification may write a verification meta tag into your store’s theme.
• Alt text improvement suggestions, effect measurement and A/B testing, based on search data from Google Search Console.
• Recording and review of the alt text change history.

The App offers four plans, which differ in the functions available and in the number of generations allowed. You use the App on the understanding of the following.

• Free — Requires you to enter your own AI API key. Generation is limited to 50 runs per month, and generation using the AI we provide is not available. Bulk upload, automatic generation via webhooks, Google Search Console integration and multilingual support are not included.
• Self — Requires you to enter your own AI API key. There is no limit on the number of generations. The features of the higher plans (bulk upload, automatic generation, Google integration and multilingual support) are not included.
• Standard — Alongside your own AI API key, you may use the AI we provide for up to 500 generations per month. Bulk upload, automatic generation via webhooks, Google Search Console integration and multilingual support are included.
• Premium — You may use the AI we provide for up to 3,000 generations per month. Everything in Standard is included, plus automatic submission to Google Search Console.
• How far back the alt text change history reaches in the admin screen depends on your plan (Free 7 days, Self 14 days, Standard 30 days, Premium 90 days). This governs the display range only; older records are not deleted automatically.

The App offers four pricing plans, including a free one. Billing and invoicing for the paid plans run entirely through Shopify’s billing system, and we never receive payment details such as your credit card number. Prices are shown in US dollars and are billed every 30 days. There is no free trial period.

In using the App, you agree to the following.

• To use the App only on a lawful Shopify store over which you hold administrator rights.
• To take final responsibility for reviewing AI-generated text before it goes live. Alt text is what allows visually impaired visitors to understand a product, and judging whether it is appropriate rests with you.
• Where you use your own AI API key, to bear the terms and the usage charges of that API provider yourself.
• To accept that verifying site ownership may involve writing to your theme. We recommend backing up your theme before that happens.
• Not to use the App for criminal activity, for spam, to infringe the rights of others, or to damage or disrupt systems.

The following applies if you use the Google Search Console integration.

Regarding data obtained from Google APIs:

• The data is used only to submit image sitemaps, to verify site ownership, and to display and analyse search performance.
• It is never sold, shared or redistributed to third parties.
• It is never used for advertising or profiling.
• Access is retained only for as long as you explicitly permit it.
• Only when you run an alt text improvement suggestion are the search queries and metrics for the page concerned sent to an AI provider, in order to generate the suggested text.

To analyse images and generate text, the App uses an external AI model — OpenAI, Anthropic or Google, whichever you select in the settings screen.

• The product image itself is sent to the AI provider. For OpenAI we pass the image URL on the Shopify CDN, and where it cannot be retrieved we send the image data directly. For Anthropic and Google we always send the image data directly.
• Alongside the image, we send the product title, variant name, product type, vendor name, tags and your alt text template examples. If you use the improvement suggestion or product suggestion features, we also send the search queries and metrics, or the list of product types, vendors, tags and collection names in use in your store.
• Because the App requests no API scope relating to customers or orders, no buyer’s personal data or payment details are ever sent to an AI provider.
• If a person appears in a product image, that image is sent to the AI provider as well. Deciding which images may be sent is your responsibility.
• AI rests on probabilistic models, so we cannot guarantee that a generated result will be accurate, appropriate or complete.

We accept no liability for any loss you suffer — direct, indirect or in the form of lost profits — arising from the following, except where we have acted with intent or gross negligence.

• Lost sales opportunities caused by a bug in the App or by downtime.
• Damage to your reputation or lost opportunities caused by inappropriate AI-generated text.
• Loss arising from existing alt text being overwritten by the App.
• Storefront display faults arising from the writing to your theme carried out to verify site ownership.
• Malfunctions arising from outages or specification changes at the external platforms we integrate with, such as Shopify, Google and the AI providers.
• Usage charges billed by an AI API provider where you use your own API key.
• Loss or corruption of data.

In any event, our total liability under these Terms is capped at the total amount you have paid for the App during the 12 months preceding the day on which the loss occurred. We accept no liability for loss arising during any period in which you used a free plan.

• We may change the specifications, functions or pricing plans of the App, giving you notice in advance.
• If we discontinue the App entirely, we will notify you at least 30 days beforehand.
• On discontinuation we delete the data the App holds. The alt text itself is stored in Shopify, so it is not lost when the App ends.

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan. Any dispute relating to the App shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court as the court of first instance.
